Devotional #5: Kindness Creates Courage
"Parents, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged."
Colossians 3:21
Do you know what it feels like to be cheered on in a race or when you're trying something new? It makes you feel brave and strong, doesn't it? Well, the Bible tells us something similar in Colossians 3:21: "Parents, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged."
In other words, when we are kind, patient, and understanding with each other, we help each other to be brave and try new things. If we're always pointing out mistakes or being too harsh, it can make people feel like they can't do anything right. That's not good for anyone.
The best part is, this doesn't just apply to parents. We all can make sure we're encouraging each other, not discouraging. We can cheer each other on in our family. We can be each other's biggest fans. And when we do this, we make our family stronger and happier.
This week, let's make sure our words and actions are encouraging, not discouraging. Remember, your family is your team, and every team is stronger when they cheer each other on.
Family Discussion Question:
Can you think of a time when you felt discouraged? What could the family do differently to help everyone feel more encouraged?
